![]() ![]() Personally I view the best usefulness of a battlecruiser as WWII and carrier warfare looms is as a capital class carrier escort capable of fending off any cruiser with battleship class guns ( though not the full size and number of a modern battleship ) but retaining the speed to keep pace with carriers. If you compare that to how well the Queen E class stood up to the same fire I think the case for keeping battlecruisers away from capital ship fights like that is pretty clear. Vs the battleships or with regards to their ammunition handling?Ĭertainly when they run their ships by the book they don't have the *suddenly detonates* issues but while that saves the ship from complete destruction those hits would have at the very least limited combat ability and it wouldn't take much more of that to take it out of the fight. Where they weren't followed, there were some unfortunate consequences. ![]() Well where the textbook was followed, the British battlecruisers did fine.
